TOP 14 AND PRO D2 CHAMPIONSHIPS SUSPENDED
PARIS, 13 MARCH 2020 - The LNR hereby announces that the TOP 14 and PRO D2 championships will be temporarily suspended.
The LNR Board has held an emergency meeting today, following the announcement made by French President Emmanuel Macron regarding the international effort to curb the effects of COVID-19.
Professional rugby in France intends to fully assume its responsibility in tackling this pandemic. The LNR Steering Committee has therefore unanimously decided to temporarily suspend theTOP 14 and PRO D2 championships.
Effective immediately, this decision applies to the two delayed PRO D2 matches that had been scheduled for tomorrow (Montauban / Provence and Carcassonne / Valence). The LNR has also asked all its professional clubs to cease group training activities, with immediate effect.
The Extraordinary General Meeting initially scheduled for Monday in Toulouse has also been cancelled. At a later date, the LNR, in alignment with its various statutory bodies, will communicate what further action will be taken regarding this situation.
“Health is our number one priority. In light of the exceptional context in which our country finds itself, we’re putting our TOP 14 and PRO D2 championships on hold for now. The most important thing is to stand together in this time,” stated LNR President Paul Goze.
